Restaurants in Batanes are few, and Cafe Tukon is someplace place visitors shouldn't miss. Located in the residence of the Abad family, where renowned artist Pacita Abad grew up, now next to rooms available to book at Fundacion Pacita, Cake Tukon is the perfect place to sit on a rainy day and read a book. I mean what a view. The coffee was great and I had a pasta and a salad that featured sun-dried arayu, a migratory fish unique to the foodways of Batanes.
Wandering around the town of Basco, I found so many amazing paintings, prints, and merch from local artists at the Basco Creative Hub, after another lovely meal at the Harbor Cafe. I wondered when I would get a chance to return, felling melancholy, already.
