Pampanga, Part One

We set off on an epic food trip through Pampanga with Outereater, visiting eateries, museums and traditional product makers in and around San Fernando and Angeles City - starting with a visit to Everybody’s Cafe, a family restaurant opened in 1946 that has undoubtedly become a local institution.

We visited Rolren’s Lanterns in San Fernando, and Museo Pamintuan in Angeles City - both beautiful and lovely surprises, like a local artist showcase.

I was rather starstruck to meet Lillian Borromeo. Her book Atching Lillian’s Heirloom Recipes has long been a source of wonder and fascination. Truly a special morning!

At Mila’s Tokwa’t Baboy, we lunched on the classics: sisig, barbecue, and their signature pork jowl and tofu specialty. We headed to Museo Ning Angeles next, where I learned about a traditional Kapampangan script called Kulitan, and learned how to write the characters for my name in this ancient script. Like the day couldn’t get any better. For dinner, we ended at My Lola Nor’s in San Fernando, with sweets a whole other level.
